Hej, jag heter Elin. Hi everybody! I’m Elin. |
Welcome to SwedishPod101.com’s “Svenska på 3 minuter”. The fastest, easiest, and most fun way to learn Swedish. |
In the last lesson, we learned the numbers from one to ten. Have you forgotten? Here I'll tell you again: |
ett, två, tre, fyra, fem, sex, sju, åtta, nio, tio. |
And now let’s continue from eleven. |
elva. |
[slowly] elva. |
tolv. |
[slowly] tolv. |
tretton. |
[slowly] tretton. |
fjorton. |
[slowly] fjorton. |
femton. |
[slowly] femton. |
sexton. |
[slowly] sexton. |
sjutton. |
[slowly] sjutton. |
arton. |
[slowly] arton. |
nitton. |
[slowly] nitton. |
And finally we have: |
tjugo. |
[slowly] tjugo. |
Okay, now repeat after me. I'll say the numbers and give you time to repeat each one. |
11. elva |
12. tolv |
13. tretton |
14. fjorton |
15. femton |
16. sexton |
17. sjutton |
18. arton |
19. nitton |
20. tjugo |
These numbers may seem harder to remember. But you really just have to remember that from tretton and up to nitton you just put (t)ton at the end. The number in front is simply 3 to 9 or a slight variation of it. Elva, tolv and tjugo need to be memorized since they don’t follow any formula. |
Let’s not stop at 20! Counting from ten to one hundred is super easy! Now I'll give you the tens - |
trettio. |
fyrtio. |
femtio. |
sextio. |
sjuttio. |
åttio. |
nittio. |
hundra. |
While you have to memorize a few of these numbers, there are a couple of tricks that will make memorizing them very easy! Notice that all the numbers except hundra ends in -(t)tio and the number in front is simply 3 to 9 or a slight variation on it. |
For example trettio. |
[slowly] trettio. |
It is composed of tre and -ttio |
trettio. |
åttio. |
[slowly]åttio. |
Is composed of åt a variation of åtta and -tio |
åttio. |
As for hundra it sounds a lot like the English “hundred” and shouldn’t be that hard to remember. |
The last thing to learn in this lesson is how to form compound numbers above twenty. This is also super easy! |
Take the tens and simply add the numbers you learned in the previous lesson. |
Let’s try it out. |
How would you say “fifty-six” in Swedish? Let’s take it step-by-step. "Fifty" is femtio, and then add "six", sex. |
Femtiosex! It’s done! Isn’t that easy? |
Let’s make another number, for instance, "ninety-eight." |
Take "ninety", nittio, and add "eight", åtta - |
Nittioåtta! |
Now it’s time for Elin’s Insights. |
To count higher than hundred would be no problem at all. Just take the hundred hundra and add whatever compound ten after that. For example, |
135 - “hundred thirty-five” |
Hundratrettiofem. |
(slowly) Hundratrettiofem. |
After only two lessons, you are now able to count to one hundred in Swedish! |
In the next lesson we are going to put your number knowledge to use! Do you have all the skills you need to go shopping in Sweden? If not, I'll be waiting for you in our next Svenska på 3 minuter. |
Ses nästa gång! |

Tack sa mycket for Svenska på 3 minuter programmet.
Hej Brett!
Good question!
The older, and probably more correct pronounciation is with the "o" at the end.
However, in normal day speech, we leave it out! So if you want to sound like a native, skip the o!
See you!

Hi, so do you pronounce the o at the ends of the numbers or just leave them out? Trettio sounds like tretti until you made it hundratrettiofem, then i heard you say the o.
Hej Fred!
Ja exakt, SwedishPod101.com would be
SvenskaPod Etthundraett punkt com!
Tack så mycket! Lycka till!
