Lesson focus

Swedish Survival Phrases lesson 23 - Getting Around Sweden.
The bus is an important means of transportation. In today’s lesson, we’re going to work on getting a ticket. In today’s lesson, we’ll use Stockholm Central Station as our destination.
In Swedish, “station” is station.
Let’s break it down by syllable: station.
Now, let’s hear it once again, station.
So, our location is “Stockholm Central Station” Stockholm Centralstation.
In Swedish, “Ticket to Stockholm Central Station, please” is En biljett till Stockholm Centralstation.
En biljett till Stockholm Centralstation.
Let’s break it down by syllable: En biljett till Stockholm Centralstation.
Now, let’s hear it once again, En biljett till Stockholm Centralstation.
The first word, en, means “one.”
The next word is biljett which in Swedish means “ticket.”
Let’s break down this word and hear it one more time: biljett.
biljett
This is followed by till, which in Swedish is “to.”
till
till
So to recap here, we have En biljett till…
Literally, this means “One ticket to…”
On this, you just add the location to where you’re traveling. In this case, this is Stockholm Central Station.
So all together, we have En biljett till Stockholm Centralstation. Literally, this means “One ticket to Stockholm Central Station, please.
Now, if you want to buy more than one ticket. For example, if you wanted to buy two tickets, you can accomplish this by saying två biljetter.
två biljetter
Let’s break it down by syllable: två biljetter.
Now, let’s hear it once again, två biljetter.
Notice that we simply substitute en biljett with två biljetter.
Now, you might also need to ask how much it is to your desired destination. For this example, we’ll use the same destination.
In Swedish, “How much is it to Stockholm Central Station?” is Vad kostar det till Stockholm Centralstation?
Vad kostar det till Stockholm Centralstation?
Let’s break it down by syllable: Vad kostar det till Stockholm Centralstation?
Let’s break it down by syllable: Vad kostar det till Stockholm Centralstation?
Now, let’s hear it once again, Vad kostar det till Stockholm Centralstation?
If you’re using the public transportation in Stockholm, the tickets are no longer available at the bus due to robberies. You must buy it in a machine next to the stop. Not all stops have this though. I can’t list all the different systems in all Swedish cities, so I suggest that you look for the local way of buying tickets before you go there. Stop by SurvivalPhrases.com and leave us a post and we will help you with this.
