Swedish Survival Phrase Lesson 33 - How do you say this in Swedish? |
In today's lesson, we'll introduce you to a phrase that will provide you with the tools to learn from the people around. Now, a dictionary is a great idea, but don't forget that you can use Swedish to learn in a more fun and interactive way. For today's lesson, we're going to need a word as we're going to cover "How do you say (something) in Swedish?" For today's lesson, let's use "car" for that something. |
In Swedish, "How do you say 'car' in Swedish?" is Hur säger man "car" på svenska? |
Hur säger man "car" på svenska? |
Let's break it down by syllable: Hur säger man "car" på svenska? |
Now, let's hear it once again: Hur säger man "car" på svenska? |
The first word Hur means "how." |
Let's break down this word and hear it one more time: Hur. |
Hur. |
This is followed by Säger, which in Swedish is "say." |
Säger. |
Säger. |
Säger. |
Then comes Man, which means "you" or "one." |
Man. |
Man. |
So, to recap here, we have Hur säger man...? Literally, this means "How does one say...?" Then you add the word you want translated into Swedish, which in this case is "car." |
Let's take a look at the next word: På, which literally means "on." But in this case, means "in." |
På. |
På. |
This is followed by Svenska, which in Swedish is "Swedish." |
Svenska. |
Svenska. |
Svenska. |
All together, we have Hur säger man "car" på svenska? Literally, this means "How does one say 'car' in Swedish?" |
You can also use this expression without using any English. To accomplish this, you can use the expression "How do you say it in Swedish?" In Swedish, "it" is Det. |
Let's break it down by syllable: Det. |
Now, let's hear it once again: Det. |
So, in Swedish, "How do you say it in Swedish?" is Hur säger man det på svenska? |
Hur säger man det på svenska? |
Let's break it down by syllable: Hur säger man det på svenska? |
Now, here it is once again: Hur säger man det på svenska? |
This is exactly the same as the previous sentence. But instead of using a word in English, you just replace that word with Det. |
Using this phrase will really, really take your Swedish to the next level because now you have stopped using English entirely. We provide you with the tools to conversate in Swedish and to learn Swedish in, that's right, Swedish. |
Hur säger man det på svenska? is a phrase you could use while pointing at something you want translated. You could also use this backwards by changing Svenska in to Engelska, which means "English." And the person you are talking to can translate what he or she just said into a language you might understand. This could, of course, can be changed into any other language. |
