Swedish Survival Phrases Lesson 37 - Places to stay and the Swedish you need to know.
In today's lesson, we'll introduce some more useful phrases for hotels and the like. The first phrase is "What time is checkout?" which in Swedish is När är utcheckningen?
När är utcheckningen?
Let's break it down by syllable: När är utcheckningen?
Now, let's hear it once again: När är utcheckningen?
The first word När means "when."
Let's break down this word and hear it one more time: När
När.
This is followed by Är, which in Swedish is "is."
Är.
Är.
So, to recap here, we have När är. Literally, this means "when is."
Let's take a look at the next word which is Utcheckningen, which means "the checkout."
Utcheckningen.
All together, we have När är utcheckningen? Literally, this means "When is the checkout?"
And there will be times you need more of certain things. Let's try "towels."
In Swedish, "Can I have some more towels?" is Kan jag få fler handdukar?
Kan jag få fler handdukar?
The only thing that changes is the thing that you're looking for. In this case, it's Handdukar.
Let's break down this word and hear it one more time: Handdukar.
Handdukar.
This phrase is used with words in plural. There are a few more words that might come in handy.
"toothbrush" - Tandborste

If you're talking about substances, as a [unin], the word Fler, which is roughly translated as "numerous," changes to the word for "more," Mer.
In Sweden, we don’t have many exclusive hotels. For instance, the celebrities stay at the Royal Grand Hotel, which is the most exclusive one. But if you don’t want to pay $300 per night for the cheapest room, I guess you will have to settle with less exclusive hotels. This means that you would have to carry your bags on your own. But Sweds in that business usually care about their customers, so if you want help, just ask.
This can easily be handled with the phrase Kan jag få hjälp? while pointing at your luggage. This means "Could I have some help?"

Outro

Okay, to close out this lesson, we'd like for you to practice what you've just learned. I'll provide you with the English equivalent of the phrase and you're responsible for saying it aloud. You'll have a few seconds before I give you the answer, so Lycka till. Okay, here we go!
